Padel in Austria: how a small Vienna scene became a nationwide boom.
Austria formed a national federation relatively early, but visible court growth arrived much later. Padel is now present in every federal state through clubs, commercial venues and developing regional structures.
The development at a glance
FIP records the Austrian federation as founded in 1994 and affiliated in 1996. Influential early courts opened in Vienna's Prater around 2014. New federation, league and tournament structures accelerated growth from 2020; since May 2024 ÖPV and the Austrian Padel Union have worked together under a common umbrella.

Why every number needs a date
Padel is growing fast enough that sources report different totals only months apart. The FIP World Padel Report 2025 estimated 120 clubs, 327 courts and 100,000 amateur players in Austria for June 2025. An ORF report in May 2026 cited roughly 450 courts and 150,000 players.
These are source snapshots produced with different methods. They are not live measurements and should not be equated with Padel Planner's public venue inventory.
From leisure trend to sporting structure
The Austrian Padel Union reported more than 1,600 official tournaments in 2024 and over 11,800 ranking registrations in 2025. Women's, men's and youth national teams plus new regional federations show growth in coaching, youth development and competition as well as courts.
For a first game, the practical route remains simple: choose a location, find three partners and search for a currently available time slot.
